Technical Reports

Guidelines

Members of the Department are actively involved in a wide variety of research areas in the field of Computer Science. These areas of research include biomedical computing, bioinformatics, distributed systems, networks, security, architecture and embedded computing, multimedia systems, computer graphics, adaptive learning and human computer interaction. Click on the menu links to view the various research groups in CS@GW, available resources and faculty research interests.

1. Technical report format: TR-GWU-CS-YY-XXX

YY: The last two digits of the year
XXX: The number when the technical report is issued.
    TR: Technical Report
Example: TR-GWU-CS-05-003 refers to the third technical report submitted in the year 2005.

Similar formats are used by Berkeley and CMU.

2. Submission Procedure

For simplicity in the beginning, we can ask the students/faculty members to submit by email with a subject line of Technical Report Submission. The email should include the report in PDF format and the following information in plaintext:
Title: Exactly the same as the TR
Author(s): Exactly the same order and same format as in the report
Abstract: The abstract of the TR
Key words: The key words if available
BibTex (optional): Created by the author for citation purpose, if available.

If submitted by a student, an approval letter from the student's advisor must be attached.

Submission through the web automatically may be available latter, if there is sufficient interest in technical reports.

3. Website

Currently, you may forward your Technical Report to Dr. Cheng via email. Very soon, you will be able to use this website to submit your report. We have a new link "Technical Report" under the department's research link at http://www.cs.gwu.edu/research/. The technical report page will contain several php links, i.e., it will connect the technical report database behind it. Currently, we can employ the "Lithium" as our technical report database. Each php link performs different functions.

At time goes, the supported functions will/should include:

  • Submit a technical report. Faculty members/students can submit their reports either by email or http. An ID will be assigned to the report and returned to the sender. The following information will be requested in the submission: DATE, TITLE, AUTHOR, PAGES, KEY WORDS, BIBTEX (optional) and ABSTRACT.
  • Update a submitted technical report.
  • Search an existing technical report. You can search by author name, title, key words or the technical report number.
