Primary Purpose of the Position:

Perform the administrative functions required to maintain NPCA’s Windows based servers, which includes NPCA’s information technology infrastructure and provide support through various activities to NPCA’s information technology department.

Minimum Scope of Position:

  • Manage all aspects of backing up NPCA’s systems
  • Perform hardware and software patches as required

    troubleshoot, upgrade, integrate, and maintain systems, software, network and port
    configuration, host-based firewalls, and peripherals.
  • Supports and collaborates with team members, software vendors, temporary and contract employees and other technical staff on project efforts to achieve implementation plans and timelines.
  • Review and monitor systems for availability, error conditions, adequate space allocation, backup integrity, and performance to ensure system stability.
  • Provide reports and capacity data to support metrics for hardware warranty, software licensing and asset management systems.
  • May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
  • Demonstrates quality service and accountability in the process of resolving requests, supporting daily operations, and ensuring system stability that results in accurate, timely, and efficient solutions and data as evidenced by meeting customer needs and meeting or exceeding established performance metrics.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business computing or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, analysis, problem solving, and working independently to successfully implement Windows Server (e.g. 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2) or relevant coursework including applications, operating system and hardware layers.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage appropriate technical tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring, etc.
  • Proven hands-on experience with the Microsoft Windows platform: Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 2012 R2 and familiarity with Windows 7, Windows 8,
  • Proven hands-on experience with the Microsoft Office 2013 suite.

Engaging Networks

We (Engaging Networks) are looking to recruit part-time junior software testers, to come into our DC, Dupont Circle office and help quality control our development releases.

This position would provide a good opportunity to work in an agile based development environment and to learn about development and testing methodologies. As well as working alongside the development process, the position would allow the candidates to gain experience in the non-profit eCRM space.

The ideal candidates would be thorough, good communicators, competent and have a head for 'putting yourself in the user's shoes'.

Along with user interface testing our jQuery rich interface, the work would involve using software to help automate these processes. The software involved would be Selenium (for automated browser testing) and PHP (for scripting), all running on Linux.

Experience with Selenium is not mandatory as there will be training and guidance.

An intermediate understanding of some programming language (PHP, Ruby, Java etc) would be beneficial however, and the candidate must show a flair for technology.

This is a paid position, offering $15 per hour, where we would be looking for a minimum commitment of two days a week. This role would be also being open to full time, over the summer months.

Gleamn LLC d/b/a Carbrio

Our web business, Gleamn LLC d/b/a Carbrio (www.carbrio.com) is launching a mobile only website, not an app, using Dudamobile, which permits custom programming. The feature we need built (coded) would allow the user to click a navigation icon within the site that would open a camera on their phone so they can take a picture and then return the user to a confirmation screen (i.e., a webform) that would display the picture they took, allow them to enter a few lines of text (e.g., email and/or mobile number) on that page and submit the webform and picture. The picture and the data need to be returned to a cloud storage solution. If you have some CSS knowledge, that’s helpful, but can be supplemented. If you would approach this differently, once you understand the larger context of the business, we are open to your ideas.

You must be able to commit to feature completion in March. The Data Incubator

Connecticut College is seeking a visiting professor (rank open) of computer science to teach one section of Operating Systems (COM326) for the fall semester of 2014 (28 August – 10 Dec). Applicants must have a Masters or equivalent in Computer Science or related field. The catalog course description of COM326:

COMPUTER SCIENCE 326 OPERATING SYSTEMS An introduction to computer operating systems. The primary functions of an operating system, such as process management, memory management, and device management, will be covered. Other relevant issues, such as security, networking, and distributed systems, will be discussed.

Prerequisites: COM 212 Data Structures and COM 219 Computer Organization.

The Nature Conservancy

The Project Manager/Scrum Master manages and leads medium-scale, highly complex business-critical IT software development projects. For these projects, s/he is responsible for leading sprint planning, daily scrums, stakeholder reviews, and team retrospectives; assisting product owners in translating project vision and business objectives into a product backlog; facilitating product backlog grooming; tracking the team’s progress (burndown, velocity and trends); removing impediments for the team; and identifying risks to the team and management. S/he ensures productivity by fostering team creativity, empowerment, and accountability, as well as the continuous improvement of software development processes. S/he may participate in the establishment of project goals and success factors, develop overall project plans, budgets and schedules with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members. S/he communicates at all levels of the organization (including senior management) on issues of strategy, risk, process, and ongoing operations. In addition, the Project Manager/Scrum Master advances the role of Scrum across the team by leading/participating in training and coaching individuals and teams, including those outside Technology & Information Systems. The Project Manager/Scrum Master works with senior management to develop and enhance IT strategies, methodologies, processes and standards, creates templates, and selects and implements. S/he researches and incorporates industry best practices as appropriate for TIS. S/he provides mentorship for project leads as requested, and works with supervisors of team members to assist in their professional development. S/he acts as a resource to other project managers to provide project management guidance and expertise.
