COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT COLLOQUIUMDate: Tuesday, March 27th, 1:30-2:30 pm Venue: CS Conference Room, Phillips Hall 736 Speaker: Amy Baylor, Ph.D. Associate Professor in Information Technology and Instructional Systems, Florida State University, and Program Director, Division of Information and Intelligent Systems, NSF. Title: Affordances and innovations with anthropomorphic interfaces Abstract: The presentation will provide an overview of empirical research revealing how "pedagogical agents" (anthropomorphic interface agents) can promote student motivation and engagement, and engender affective as well as cognitive responses within technology-mediated learning environments. Speaker bio: Dr. Baylor is an associate professor at Florida State University in Information Technology and Instructional Systems and the founder/director of the Center for Research on Innovative Technologies for Learning (RITL), http://ritl.fsu.edu. She is currently on leave and serving as the program director for human-centered computing in the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems at the National Science Foundation.
